ROPOSAL BRIEF INTRODUCTION The proposal includes 1 set of water-electrolysis hydrogen plant with H2 capacity 700Nm3 /h (DQ-700/1.6), which outlet pressure 1.5 MPa by pressure reducing valve. The DQ system configuration includes several pieces of equipment, the Electrolyzer, Gas-lye Separating System, Hydrogen and Oxygen Purification, Transformer, Rectifier, Control Cabinet, Water Tank, Chiller and so on. The inputs required to operate the system include high purity water and electricity power for electrolysis, nitrogen for initial purging, compressed air (or nitrogen) for pneumatic control and cooling water for waste heat removal. Using these inputs the system will supply hydrogen at 15 kg/cm2. Oxygen, which could be vent to air, is produced at one-half of the rate of hydrogen. 2. Hydrogen Generation Process 2.4.1 Power Supply a) We shall provide HT Rectifying Transformer and Rectifier for AC converting into DC. b) Rectifying transformer is used to change high AC voltage to required low Voltage for the exclusive use of Electrolyzer. c) DC is fed from Rectifier to Electrolyzer where water electrolysis process takes place. DC power is applied to Electrolyzer at anode in the middle and cathode at both ends. d) Client shall provide one separate feeder of LT power for powering Hydrogen Plant's other equipment, e.g. Pumps, PLC Control Panel etc. These other auxiliary equipment shall be operated via our power distribution. 2.4.2Electrolyzer The main part of Hydrogen Generator is Electrolyzer where electrolysis process takes place. The basic process of separating H2O into its elemental components occurs, when a voltage applied and a DC current flows through the electrodes submerging entire in alkaline water. Alkaline water electrolysis uses a strong aqueous alkaline solution to provide an abundance of hydroxyl ions (oh-) and minimize the electrical resistance between electrodes. Our special configuration, usually referred to as bipolar or filter-press construction, result in a compact and efficient electrolysis module, producing gases at high SHANGHAI LINENG INDUSTRY AND TRADE CO.,LTD - Page 8 of 17 - pressure of 9.5 kg/cm2 (g) directly. So, no Hydrogen compressor required. Hydrogen purity at this point is 99.9% with 0.1%Max. oxygen. When an individual half-cell electrochemical reaction occurs at each electrode: At the anode :4OH-→O2+2H2O+4EAt the cathode: 4H2O+4E-→2H2+4OHThe overall reaction: 2H2O→2H2+ O2 Hydrogen and Oxygen come out separately from Electrolyzer along with Lye solution. 2.4.3 Gas-lye Separation Frame The Gas-lye Separation Frame configuration includes Hydrogen & Oxygen Separators, Hydrogen & Oxygen Wash Tower, Hydrogen & Oxygen Cooler, Lye cooler, Lye filter, Lye Circulation Pumps, and Pneumatic Control valves etc. Hydrogen & Oxygen come out separately from Electrolyzer into Hydrogen separator and Oxygen separator. Gases are separated from electrolyte by gravity at the bottom of both Gas-separators, and washed in Wash Tower by DM water, then cooled in Gas Coolers and eliminated moisture, Finally clean gases come out through two Pneumatic Control Valves respectively, Which control system pressure and lye levels in Gas-separators. Hydrogen is delivered to hydrogen tank or further purified, while oxygen is typically vented. Lye solution stays at the bottom of both Separators, then joints together and goes through Lye Pump, Lye cooler, and Lye filter back to electrolyzer for further recirculation. 2.4.4 Automatic Control system An automatic control system with PLC is provided. It has SIMENS S7 series PLC and HMI to control the operation. All the important operating parameters are continually monitored and shown on the computer screen. Should conditions within the system deviate beyond the allowable range, system alarm and shutdown will automatically occur. a). You will supply 300 Liter/ hr. DM water for this generator. DM water will be filled in our DM watertank. DM water pump feeds DM water into Hydrogen separator as well as Oxygen separator. The operation of DM water pump is intermittent, and the start and stop are controlled according to Lye level of the Hydrogen & Oxygen separators automatically. b). Lye tank (temporary) is used to configure lye solution. By switching the valve to form a loop for preparing lye, among Lye Tank, Lye Pump, Lye Cooler and Lye filter. KOH is added continuously in the Lye tank to make 28% Lye solution during the circulation. This step is done only while initial start-up. In addition, Lye Tank is used to storage lye during plant maintenance. 2.4.6 Other Subsystems a) Cooling Water System: Cooling water is divided to two streams. One stream will cool the Lye solution and gases in Gas-separator Frame, and the other stream is used for Rectifier. There is an optional choice of Closed-loop Cooling Water System for Rectifier which using DM water, to prevent Rectifier cooling system scaling for long lifetime. Flow of cooling water is control through pneumatic diaphragm regulating valves, to achieve purpose of controlled operating temperature. The cooling water is mainly used for cooling the Lye solution in Lye coolers. It is also passed to both Gas coolers for Hydrogen and Oxygen gas cooling. Cooling water is also required for cooling of Rectifier panel. b) Instrument Air: The instrument air is supplied for the control valves of primary instrument on auxiliary Modules such as pneumatic diaphragm regulating valves. c) Nitrogen Purging: The plant is provided with nitrogen purge line to purge the system before starting the plant. It is mandatory to do the purging while initial start-up or maintenance, also to test leakages before starting up of the system. During the first use of the hydrogen storage tank (if applicable) or maintenance, it must take purging with nitrogen and leakage test before use. d) Drainage System: Drainage nozzles are equipped on the Electrolyzer, Lye filters, Lye tank and DM water tank. e) Gas Analyzers: SHANGHAI LINENG INDUSTRY AND TRADE CO.,LTD. - Page 10 of 17 - An online Hydrogen Analyzer is provided to monitor H2 content in O2. Generally, Hydrogen in Oxygen gas is less than 1.5%. It also has inbuilt set point alarm if Hydrogen exceeds 2% level. Then it trips total Hydrogen plant. These Analyzer signals are sent to PLC for continuous monitoring. The control program decides whether H2 to be sent further processing or to vent out. An online ppm O2 in H2 Analyzer is provided which analyzes Hydrogen gas sample. It is digital analyzer having Oxygen range of 0 to 100ppm. It also has alarm in case Oxygen in Hydrogen gas exceeds 10ppm level. An online ppm H2O in H2 Analyzer is provided which analyzes Hydrogen gas sample. It is digital analyzer having H2O range of -100 to+20°C. It also has alarm in case H2O in Hydrogen gas exceeds -20°C level. f) Hydrogen Leakage Detector: Two Hydrogen leakage detectors are provided in ceiling above Hydrogen plant. These detectors continuously detect Hydrogen in atmosphere. In case of Hydrogen leakage, the detector will immediately send signal to PLC Control program to trip the Hydrogen generation system. This assures to protect Hydrogen plant room from H2 accumulated for safety and reliability. 2.5 Hydrogen purification 2.5.1 Principle During the process of water electrolysis, the membrane cannot thoroughly prevent the penetration of hydrogen and oxygen into each other, especially when there is pressure difference between hydrogen and oxygen sides in electrolyzer. Moreover, the electrolyte is circulated continuously, between the hydrogen and oxygen separators, hydrogen and oxygen cannot be completely separated by the lye, so hydrogen made by water electrolysis contains little oxygen, normally less than 0.1%. Due to gas and liquid co-existing during the generating process, hydrogen is also saturated with moisture. 2.5.2 Process description Hydrogen out of Gas-lye Separator Frame, enters into Deoxo Column to get rid of oxygen by Pd catalyst at room temperature. Via cooler and gas-water separator, enters into absorption dryer, where the moisture and CO2 in hydrogen is absorbed by molecular sieve at room temperature. Finally, high purity hydrogen is obtained after being filtered. SHANGHAI LINENG INDUSTRY AND TRADE CO.,LTD. . - Page 11 of 17 - The drying system contains three adsorption dryers. When the Dryer (I) is doing adsorption work, 20% dry hydrogen is extracted at the outlet of Dryer (I) to flow through Dryer (II) which is being heated for regeneration, for carrying away the moisture that adsorbed during previous adsorption work. After cooled by cooling water through two regeneration coolers, condensate is separated from the 20% hydrogen by Condenser. Then going into Dryer (III) for adsorption, the 20% regeneration hydrogen is dried deeply again and combined into the other 80% hydrogen out of the Dryer (I), together 100% quantity hydrogen is delivered out through sintered nickel pipe filter. The three dryers automatically alternate through a 24- hour adsorption and desorption cycle. The pressure, temperature, drainage discharge and cold purging and so on, in the working state of the equipment is operated automatically, and the valves are switched as per the working period of adsorption dryer. 2.6 Battery Limits The battery limits for the supply of the various modules/skids and auxiliaries are: • All piping shall be terminated by CHINLION with a flanged, welded, threaded or valve connection. • The cabling terminations are inlet terminals in control panel and transformer. • Installation materials are included in CHINLION's scope. This Plant will be equipped in accordance with Article 2.7 Scope of Supply. Equipment and performance parameters are specified in the Technical Part.
